VCMS Fundraiser Gala and BC Winter Games

Just wanted to let everybody know that February is shaping up to be a busy month for the Mark Rose Big Band! We'll be playing at the Vernon Community Music School's fundraiser gala on February 4th. It's shaping up to be a great event: cocktails at 5:00pm with dinner, performances from VCMS students and staff, and the Mark Rose Big Band to follow. We're also going to be playing at the opening and closing ceremonies of the B.C. Winter Games on February 23rd and 26th. I'll be posting more details about all of these events as they arrive, and you can already view the full description of the VCMS event by clicking through to our website.

Miscellaneous Updates

A number of quickies: 1. Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the June 18th dance--your participation raised nearly $4000 for the Lights of Broadway, and it goes without saying that the band had a great time. 2. Sorry to everyone who was looking forward to the July 13th show at Salmon Arm's Wednesday on the Wharf--we got rained out at the last minute. We're disappointed too--but maybe we'll be able to try again next year. 3. The band will be playing at the Kalamalka Country Club on September 24th. Keep an eye out for details.

Big Band Dance March 19

As winter comes to an end, it’s time for a fun evening out on the town. Get your friends together, dust off those dancing shoes, and come out to see a live Big Band with a 15 piece horn section, piano, guitar, acoustic bass, drums, and two vocalists. Saturday March 19th, the Mark Rose Big Band will be performing at the Schubert Center. Come and hear timeless music including traditional big band, latin jazz and funk.

The band will be presenting a number of new pieces including arrangements by the band’s pianist, Jim Johnson. These high energy, modern interpretations showcase the lush sound of the Big Band and stellar soloists including Vernon’s own Craig Carmody on tenor sax. Samples of some of the music the band will be performing can be found on the band’s website at www.markrosebigband.net. The Mark Rose Big Band delivers live music in a BIG way, with a variety of great music and that classic Big Band sound!

Saturday March 19th, bring your dancing shoes or just come to listen. Doors open at 7:30 with the downbeat at 8:00PM. A cash bar is available (minors are welcome). Admission is just $10, with advance tickets available at Bean to Cup Coffee Shop and Art Schmidt Optical. Tickets also available at the door subject to availability.

There are some new photos available on the band's website! The current crop is a group of photos from the JCI Hospital Gala (Mau 29th, 2010) and we hope to be adding a few more from another recent gig in the near future. In the meantime, though, do swing by and see what we've got!

The band also has a new email list available on the Contact page of our website (linked above). It's now much easier to sign up for the mailing list, which will include updates about upcoming shows and the occasional announcement about major updates to the website. (By the way, we're not going to include every minor site tweak in either the RSS feed or the email group. This is mostly a test update.)
